Humboldt Traspasar El Mito

Metropolitan Cultural Center (Centro Cultural Metropolitano) in Quito, Ecuador, held an exhibition to commemorate 250th anniversary of the birth of Alexander von Humboldt.
The exhibition was made up of 29 works by 16 artists from Ecuador and Colombia that have raised some of these readings causing complex dialogues between the tropics, speeches and imaginations mobilized from the “reinvention” of America proposed by Humboldt: landscape, map and territory, travel, exploration and discovery, cosmos and nature, etc.; and, contemporary issues such as mining extractivism, nature, technology, global capitalism, ecological crisis, cognitive capitalism, identity / territorial tensions, affective geographies and others.

Artists shown in the exhibition included Fernando Falconí, Juana Córdova, José Hidalgo Anastacio, Óscar Santillán, Alberto Baraya, José Alejandro Restrepo, Pablo Cardoso, Paula Barragán, Angélica Teuta, Antonio Bermúdez, Susana Mejía, Paúl Rosero Contreras, Gonzalo Vargas, Dennys Navas, José Luis Macas, Karina Skyvirsky

The display systems for this exhibition were designed by Probject – a collaborative practice between Studio Manuel Raeder and the Mexico-based designer Rodolfo Samperio.
